U.S. stocks higher at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.63%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Telecoms, Financials and Technology sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.63% to hit a new 3-months high, while the S&P 500 index added 0.52%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 0.48%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS), which rose 2.45% or 16.94 points to trade at 707.75 at the close. Meanwhile, Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) added 2.27% or 0.96 points to end at 43.27 and Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) was up 1.99% or 4.01 points to 205.09 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which fell 2.34% or 5.02 points to trade at 209.53 at the close. Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) declined 1.75% or 3.91 points to end at 219.39 and Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) was down 1.42% or 1.02 points to 71.02.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co (NYSE:HPE) which rose 11.08% to 20.45, First Solar Inc (NASDAQ:FSLR) which was up 8.76% to settle at 165.47 and Juniper Networks Inc (NYSE:JNPR) which gained 8.45% to close at 39.93.

The worst performers were Fortive Corp (NYSE:FTV) which was down 27.19% to 52.13 in late trade, Albemarle Corp (NYSE:ALB) which lost 3.51% to settle at 62.67 and Enphase Energy Inc (NASDAQ:ENPH) which was down 3.01% to 39.65 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Wag! Group Co (NASDAQ:PET) which rose 120.19% to 0.23, Professional Diversity Network Inc (NASDAQ:IPDN) which was up 94.24% to settle at 3.38 and Artelo Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:ARTL) which gained 87.43% to close at 13.27.

The worst performers were JVSPAC Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:JVSA) which was down 66.57% to 3.64 in late trade, Tianci International Inc (NASDAQ:CIIT) which lost 59.26% to settle at 0.77 and INmune Bio Inc (NASDAQ:INMB) which was down 56.66% to 2.31 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1527 to 1250 and 77 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1767 rose and 1545 declined, while 153 ended unchanged.

Shares in Fortive Corp (NYSE:FTV) fell to 5-year lows; down 27.19% or 19.47 to 52.13. Shares in Juniper Networks Inc (NYSE:JNPR) rose to 5-year highs; rising 8.45% or 3.11 to 39.93. Shares in Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) rose to all time highs; gaining 2.45% or 16.94 to 707.75. Shares in JVSPAC Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:JVSA) fell to all time lows; down 66.57% or 7.25 to 3.64. Shares in Tianci International Inc (NASDAQ:CIIT) fell to 52-week lows; losing 59.26% or 1.12 to 0.77. Shares in Artelo Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:ARTL) rose to 52-week highs; up 87.43% or 6.19 to 13.27. Shares in INmune Bio Inc (NASDAQ:INMB) fell to 5-year lows; losing 56.66% or 3.02 to 2.31.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 2.51% to 16.73.

Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.90% or 29.62 to $3,317.22 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.84% or 0.55 to hit $64.97 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.30% or 0.20 to trade at $66.60 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.55% to 1.18, while USD/JPY fell 0.49% to 143.96.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.64% at 96.41.
