Yahoo Finance test drives the Corvette Grand Sport X hybrid

Yahoo Finance Senior Autos Reporter Pras Subramanian took out Chevy's (GM) new Corvette Grand Sport X hybrid for a test drive, highlighting the vehicle's 6.7L V8 engine and its price tag.

Shifting gears, Ya Finance senior autos correspondent Pras Subramanian is one of the few people who got to test drive the Corvette Grand X Hybrid sports car. He joins now with more on that experience. Right Pras? How did it feel?

You know, Josh, I do feel very privileged to drive a car like the Grand Sport X. Uh GM's latest and greatest Corvette, right? So let me just start off with with, you know, before I get into the drive, I want to talk about how the car looks, right? It it's the new C8 Corvette

it with the little bit of some little bit of extra bits here, right? So, for the Grand Sport, they add some extra, they make it the wide body kit, the extra extra arrows, uh stripes, which you know, stripes make a car go faster. you know, you know what they say, right? It's extra 5 horsepower. You know, so the car looks the part inside, you saw me sitting inside there. It's kind of draped in leather and Alcantara suede like material. GM did a fantastic job in that cabin, but I really want to also note that what's really cool and new on this car is that new 6.7 liter

V8, brand new engine from GM. It's a big deal for them. Um this this engine is just awesome. It sounds incredible. You heard it sound going into commercial break, right? Uh I think it's an incredible part of that car and that's what makes this car so important.

So how much is this Corvette going to cost me, Pras? And who by the way is Chevy taking on with this car? Who's the competition?

Well, the thing with this car is that what's make what makes it different, the Grand Sport has the V8, right? But the Grand Sport X which I had is the hybrid, right? So, it has this hybrid power train that allows not only just for, you know, torque fill when you're sort of uh going on the road and changing gears and you lose power and change gears. this this thing power still. and it also helps you spin the car, uh let's say around a turn, uh aggressive steering, also in inclement weather, right? So you ask,

what is this car? who's this car for? I think it's for those people, those Corvette drivers who want a car they can do it all, right? They can not only drive in the summer and drive to the cars and coffee and things like that, but they can also drive it in the winter. They can drive it when it's raining. Uh it's really is a car that make that people call the sweet spot of of the Corvette lineup and I think that's what this car is, it can kind of do it all and that's sort of why uh GM is kind it has a little a unique car in that respect with the Corvette Grand Sport X.

And it 80, 90, 100,000, what are we talking about, Pras?

All right, sorry. I forgot you asked that. So this car, this car costs about 112,000 starts, right? So you can add on options and you go above 120, 125. Uh so it's not a cheap car, but if you really think about it, the competition is something like the Porsche 911 Turbo, right? That's an all-wheel drive car. That's like 250, right? 200, 250. That's double the cost of this car. So it really kind of shows you what GM can do when it puts its sort of uh manufacturing muscle and engineering know-how, uh that sort of thing into a car that can be deliver this much performance at that price.
