Macau gaming revenue tops estimates amid solid Chinese New Year traffic

Macau gross gaming revenue rose 4.5% year over year to 20.6B patacas ($2.6B), according to data from the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau. The GGR beat the consensus expectation for a rise of 1% and came in at 83% of the pre-pandemic level in 2019. However, the GGR tally was lower than the 22.6B patacas mark for January.

The month included the Chinese New Year, which is considered a key catalyst for the Macau casino sector. This year, operators with a heavier exposure to premium mass and non-gaming attractions were seen as positioned to benefit the most from the solid traffic numbers to the gambling mecca. Official totals released last week indicated that average daily arrivals for the holiday were up 5.5%. Hotels saw average occupancy of 95.6% and peaked at 99.2%.

For the first two months of 2026, Macau GGR is up 13.9% year over year to 43.3 patacas ($5.4B), which is down 14% from the pre-pandemic period in 2019.
