Sony's Spider-Man: Brand New Day tracks toward a huge box office weekend

Sony Pictures (SONY [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/SONY]) and Marvel Studios' _Spider-Man: Brand New Day_ is setting up for a huge box office weekend.

The fourth installment with Tom Holland in the starring role did $72M in early access screenings and Thursday previews and is forecast by industry watchers to generate more than $260M in the U.S. over the weekend, which is far above Sony's (SONY [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/SONY]) more conservative outlook for $190M to $195M. If the film clears the $200M mark for the weekend, it will be just the tenth title in history with the distinction. The global box office for the weekend is expected to top $425M.

The film has a current 92% Rotten Tomatoes critical rating and also stars Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal, and Mark Ruffalo in addition to Tom Holland. Due to the strong demand, movie theater operators are rushing to add more times to meet demand for the film.

Disney (DIS [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/DIS]) is a creative co-producer on the film and involved with merchandising.

A strong box office weekend will be another boost for AMC Entertainment (AMC [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/AMC]), Cinemark Holdings (CNK [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/CNK]), IMAX Corporation (IMAX [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/IMAX]), Marcus Corporation (MCS [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/MCS]), and Reading International (RDI [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/RDI]).
