U.S. drilling rig count edges higher in latest Baker Hughes weekly survey

The number of oil and gas rigs actively drilling in the U.S. rose by 1 to 588, the count's 13th gain in the past 15 weeks, Baker Hughes said Friday in its latest weekly survey [https://rigcount.bakerhughes.com/rig-count-overview].

The number of active drilling rigs targeting crude oil in the U.S. added 1 to 451 in the week ended July 31, while gas rigs remained unchanged at 127, and 10 rigs were classified as miscellaneous.

The total rig count was up 48, or 8.9%, compared to the same time last year, while the number of rigs drilling for oil rose by 41, or 10%, from a year ago, and gas rigs were up by 3, or 2.4%, from a year earlier.

Rigs targeting oil in the Permian Basin gained 2 to 258, oil rigs in the Eagle Ford added 3 to 41, and the Williston Basin stayed flat at 27.
