U.S. and China will talk more on extending tariff truce - reports

U.S. and Chinese negotiators will continue to discuss terms about extending their tariff truce, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told reporters after the latest round of trade talks ended on Tuesday in Stockholm, according to media reports.

President Donald Trump will make the final decision on extending the tariff truce, he said, Bloomberg News reported. Bessent said one option is adding another 90 days to the pause.

Chinese trade negotiator Li Chenggang told reporters that talks were candid and in-depth, and that both sides will continue close communication, Bloomberg reported [https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-07-29/us-china-agree-to-continue-talks-on-a-tariff-truce-extension].

The remaining issues on reaching an agreement over the extension are "small" and "mainly had to do with the Chinese delegation," Bessent said.
