* President Donald Trump on Wednesday filed a revised lawsuit against the publisher of _The Wall Street Journal_, after a judge dismissed an earlier complaint that alleged he was defamed by an article about a birthday letter to disgraced financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
* U.S. District Judge Darrin Gayles, based in Miami, had given Trump until May 27 to file a new complaint. The judge dismissed Trump’s original lawsuit after finding it didn’t sufficiently allege “actual malice,” a legal standard that requires proof that defendants published a story with knowledge it was false or with reckless disregard for the truth, _WSJ_ reported [https://www.wsj.com/us-news/law/trump-files-revised-defamation-lawsuit-against-wsj-publisher-3c944f80].
* The lawsuit is one of several Trump has brought in his personal capacity against news organizations, part of what critics say is a wider pressure campaign against the ‌media.
* Trump's lawsuit said the Rupert Murdoch-owned newspaper tarnished his reputation with an article describing a birthday card to deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein as bearing Trump's signature. Trump and his lawyers said the card is fake, even after it was released by lawmakers investigating Epstein's case.
